general frequently asked questions
WHAT IS PERMANENT/SEMI-PERMANENT MAKEUP?
“Permanent” makeup or PMU, is a form of cosmetic tattoo that is SEMI-PERMANENT and lasts up to about 1-3 years. This allows not only the design and color to look as natural as possible but the client to have the flexibility to change the design as face structures and/or trends change.
The names are interchangeable in recent years as “permanent” forms of makeup are not practiced by many technicians due to undesirable results, though they may last a long time.

WHAT IS MICROSHADING OR OMBRE POWDER BROWS?
Ombre Powder Brows is the hottest must have technique for permanent makeup. It is a technique that is soft and light near the eyes and gradually gets darker towards the tails of the brows. Once they are healed they settle into a soft, misty, smooth, natural finish brow that can be built up to resemble the look of darker makeup.

DO YOU OFFER MICROBLADING?
No. We do not offer microblading. Why? While microblading offers amazing immediate results, after a couple months the hair strokes blur and go patchy. We often correct past microblading procedures with Ombre Powder Brow technique because the hair like strokes no longer look like hair like strokes, especially on people with oily skin. Ombre Powder Brows tend to last longer and heal with better results.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Ombre Powder Brows last 1-3 years depending on the individual's skin type, lifestyle, and procedure.
On average 1.5-2 years

HOW LONG IS THE ENTIRE PROCEDURE?
The entire process which includes consultation, numbing, and tattooing takes anywhere from 2-4 hours. View our page "The Process" for more information on the procedure itself.

WILL I LOOK NORMAL AFTER MY PROCEDURE?
When you leave SOME people have redness, this will be gone after a couple hours. Brows may look a little darker or swollen for the first day or two depending on the person, but most clients are able to go back to their daily activities right after the procedure. If you have any important events it is recommended that you book your appointment after.
Your new color will look darker and more defined for the first 1-10 days. Your brows will get lighter at the end of the week as your eyebrows heal and scabs fall off. The healing process takes about 14 days on average, and a full month to see the actual results before your follow up appointment.

IS PERMANENT MAKEUP SAFE?
Here at Crybaby Brow Co we follow strict safety and sanitation standards, we pride ourselves in making your visit as safe and comfortable as possible! Before we see clients and after each client leaves we go through a VERY thorough cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting process. Before and after every procedure the workstation area, chair, and trays is sprayed down and wiped with Cavicide, a STRONG medical grade disinfectant.
Needle cartridges are all single use, pre-packaged, and pre-sterilized and are all disposed of in a sharps container.
Any place we touch is pre-wrapped in barrier film and seran wrap. We wear nitrile gloves for the people with latex allergies and change them through each process in the procedure.
Our pigments used to create your custom makeup are hand picked by our technician and are made from the highest quality ingredients.

WILL IT DAMAGE MY HAIR?
Not at all! Semi-permanent makeup is placed on the outer most layer of your skin. Regular tattoos penetrate your epidermis, which is beneath the outer most layer of your skin. Your hair follicle is even deeper in the dermis and is not affected by these procedures.

IS IT PAINFUL?
This depends on the client, but most of our clients experience little to no pain and describe the pain as light scratching. We apply a gentle but effective top of the line topical anesthetic as well as applying a secondary numbing gel if needed during the procedure. Because it is a cosmetic tattoo, some individuals will experience some pain or discomfort, but we take many precautions in order to ensure the comfort of our clients.

ARE TOUCH UPS FREE?
Touch up is 4-6 weeks after your procedure and costs $100. It is a completely optional and complimentary service we provide for our clients to ensure the best results. If you need additional touch ups after 6 weeks, a fee is charged. Everyone heals differently and is unpredictable. While we disclose all potential issues as best as we can, we are not responsible for your outcome as it heavily relies on following proper preparation/aftercare and your skin. This touch up typically takes 1-2 hours.
Many of our clients are satisfied with their results after just one session. Many of our clients do not take advantage of our complimentary service, but it is there for those who would like to! Gratuities are appreciated for this service.

PREPARATIONS
-No Botox treatments should be done 3 weeks prior or 4 weeks after procedure
-No chemical peels 60 days before or after procedure (brows will peel quicker due to chemicals traveling under the skin)
-No Retinols/Retin-A or other anti-aging/acne creams, or serums containing acids as these will fade brows prematurely
-Do not work out or sweat heavily the day of the procedure (or 2 weeks after)
-Do not tan or have a sunburned face the day of the procedure
-No waxing or tinting 3 days before procedure
-Stop taking aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, fish oil, CoQ10 and ibuprofen 48 hours before procedure
-No alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before procedure.

AFTERCARE
Day 1: Gently blot your brows throughout the day. Do this at least 3-6 times before bedtime. This helps prevent hardening of lymphatic fluid. Try not to sleep with your face in your pillow.
Days 1-7: Maintain facial hygiene in order to remove bacteria, build up of product and oils. Clean skin gently by washing the area each morning and night with Cetaphil Soap Bar (provided in kit). Pat dry with tissue or cotton pad very lightly. Apply rice sized amount of lotion (provided in kit) to brows with a q-tip. It is very important that you do not apply too much. This can cause infection and your brows will suffocate. Do not apply aftercare on wet/damp brows. Keep treated area moist by applying the ointment 2-3x's a day.
-No Botox 4 weeks after procedure
-No cleansers, creams, makeup, or any products on or near the treated area besides what is included in your aftercare kit
-No exposure to direct sun or tanning beds for a minimum of 2 weeks
-Avoid swimming pools for 2 weeks
-Do not wax, tweeze, or dye eyebrows for 2 weeks
-Avoid heavy sweating for at least 7 days
-No facials, chemical peels, or laser treatments for at least 4 weeks.
-Be gentle. DO NOT RUB or PICK your eyebrows during the healing period, allow scabs to naturally fall off
-No Retinols/Retin-A or other anti-aging/acne creams, or serums containing acids for 4 weeks.

After you are completely healed you may resume your normal skincare and makeup routine. Use sunblock after the area is healed to protect from fading.

RECOVERY
NO DOWN TIME
Although slight swelling and redness may occur depending on the person. However, it will take up to 14 days to heal: depending on the person you may want to take time off if you are uncomfortable walking about with your unhealed brows when the scabbing process takes place. Most people resume normal activities with no problem!

DO I WEAR MAKEUP?
We prefer that you wear your everyday makeup with your brows filled in.
If you don't wear makeup that is fine too!

WILL I BE ABLE TO TELL THE TECHNICIAN WHAT I WANT?
Specializing in custom, natural makeup, you will be able to discuss your goals with our technician during your consultation. We make sure to consult with our clients to ensure satisfactory results before proceeding with the cosmetic tattoo.

PRE-EXISTING TATTOOS
I have a previous tattoo / would like to cover up. What are my options?
We specialize in fixing less than desirable results from previous work! It is possible to get microblading/semi-permanent makeup over pre-existing tattoos. However, the result can depend on the current state and thus requires a more in depth consultation with our technician. If you are unsure, please send a photo to (443)819-4785 or schedule a free consultation.
GOOD CANDIDATES
We are very selective with whom we pick for those with previous tattoos. If you have lower expectations and wish to improve the area, we can fix it for you. If you’re expecting a complete difference then we will be unable to accept you. Although we can make it better than how It currently maybe, we cannot completely transform them as if they were a blank canvas.
-
Laser removal, wait 3 months
-
If it is dark, we can offer a neutralizing service. We can make it better depending on the client and their condition, but we can not change/make the shape completely disappear. We can only treat the affected area. Then, we will go back on top with powder brow for your new shape.
-
Neutralizing service we cannot change the shape, but we can soften your current color
-
If it is light/faded we can cover it up as long as we use a darker color. The color will look darker.
We cannot stress how important it is to choose your technician wisely. We know how tempting discounts and deals can be… Remember, you are not paying for the procedure, you are paying for a technician who is skilled giving you the procedure!

MEDICAL + SKIN CONDITIONS
You should take precautions and get a notice from your doctor/ health provider if you have any medical history or skin conditions on the procedural area. We have the right to refuse clients. We are not responsible for any risks, even if you disclose them to us. Please contact us for a private consultation to see if you are a good candidate!
Blood-thinning medication
It is possible to still receive semi-permanent tattoos while taking blood-thinning medication. However this may affect the outcome and the client should let the technician know prior to the procedure.
Scar tissue
Almost everyone has scar tissue. Most people don’t even notice it, especially if you’ve never had semi-permanent makeup done before.
Because your natural hair is much lighter than the definition you get with cosmetic tattoos, scar tissue can suddenly seem to become more noticeable as “bald spots” and “sparse areas” post procedure as you heal and the pigment lightens. Although it may look great on the first day, when pigment starts to fade on the area in which you received the procedure, it will fade there faster.
You may have to come in more often for a touch up to address these issues! Although the pigment will show less, it is better than the space being white/empty because of scar tissue.

WHO IS INELIGIBLE?
Pregnant/Nursing
While your doctor/health care provider may say it’s okay to receive semi-permanent makeup while nursing or pregnant, we highly advise against it. The topical anesthetic could directly affect your hormones and your baby. This is a moral choice we stand by here at Hera PMU for you and your baby’s protection.
Under 18
The legal age to receive any sort of tattoo is illegal for those under 18 years of age.
